Growing up in Cranbrook BC, I have a long history in the sport, starting at the age of 7 and competing until I was 19 years old. As a competitor, I represented British Columbia at the National Championships each year from the time I was 12 and earned 2 Senior National Championships.  I was successful in numerous championships throughout the Pacific North Western United Sates, British Columbia and Alberta including Best Boxer awards at BC Silver Gloves and both the BC and Alberta Golden Gloves.

I boxed a total of 175 bouts I represented BC in a tour of England where I was undefeated. I was selected as the East Kootenay 1978 Athlete of the Year.  I medaled in the Commonwealth Games of 1978 where I lost by decision to well known World Champion, Mike McCallum. Twenty years later, when we met outside the ring Mike responded, “ I remember you.  You were just a boy.  I couldn’t believe how hard you hit”.

I represented Canada at the PanAm Games of 1979. With the boycott of the 1980 Olympics my focus turned towards education but I always stayed involved in boxing, coaching and officiating in the Lower Mainland and the Interior of BC. I attended Simon Fraser University and obtained a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology at BCIT.  This led to my final career as a Certified Pathologist Assistant at Royal Jubilee Hospital.

I have now lived in Victoria for 22 years. I have been certified as a National Amateur Coach and Official. I have represented our province in both these capacities.  I am have always been actively involved with officiating for Boxing BC and have recently been officiating professionally. This new role will be challenging but I am eager to rise to the challenge.

Learning exists in that space just outside your comfort zone.
